El Salvador Restaurant

My roommate in college introduced me to the El Salvador Restaurant on Center Street in Provo.  It is one of my favorite places to go for a low-cost delicious meal in Utah County.  If you want to take your kids to somewhere out of the ordinary and adventurous for a really good price I definitely recommend this place.

This (above) is what it looks like on the outside.  The inside (below) has folding tables on one side with booths along the wall on the other side.  There is a TV on one end (for the workers to watch I think) which always has some Spanish soap-opera or news program on.  The walls are covered in things from El Salvador and one wall has a big map of the country.

This is a pretty authentic place.  Even though the facilities may not be the fanciest, the food is delicious....well the pupusas are delicious.  I can't say I've ever tried anything else.

I get the pupusas every time.  It's a thick tortilla-like thing with meat and/or cheese in the middle.  Delicious.  You top it off with this shredded cabbage type stuff with this delicious not-so-spicy sauce for added flavor.  Kids would only need 1; I usually get 2.  When we went last week my husband hadn't really eaten all day so he got 3 but barely finished them.

My favorite "flavor" of pupusas is pork & cheese, although I like plain cheese and bean & cheese as well.  Best part about this delicious meal - each pupusa is just $1.60!  We can go and feed our family of 3 at this restaurant for just $8 plus tip!  You can't get cheaper than that.

Everyone we have taken has really liked pupusas.  This is however a very authentic restaurant.  You aren't going to find chicken nuggets or macaroni and cheese at this place.  If you have a picky eater that isn't open to trying new things, this place may be better suited as a date night with just the adults.

This place also does call-in orders.  Sometimes if we don't feel like going out we'll call in our order and go pick it up - the leftovers save great in the fridge.

  1. I'm so glad it is still open! I found frozen pupusas, but it is not the same.
